I am not sure of what we are suppose to write about. So I am going to talk about what I think about what we are doing in class.
The persasive papers and essays, i can of like to read them. i like to here what other people have to say about topics that they feel stronghly about and get me thinking. when we start writing these persasive papers, it will be new to me. i do not think i have writen one before. but i could be interisting in trying to persade some one on a topic. getting your point across using logos, pathos, and ethos. i have never heard of these before this year. one of my best friends was talking about them a week before we started to talk about them. i thought that was weird. well i do not know what else to talk about so i am done until the next journal.

i found the promt at midnight. sorry

Jim Smoot wrote a blog responding to the question, should English be the official language in the US. He states that people feel that they are discriminating when they take a stand for English being an official language. He explains that it is ok to know or to have another language but to successes in this country a person needs to know English. He also says that the government should help the people that should learn English instead of having multi-language class rooms.
In my opinion I think that this is a poorly written persuasive essay. He’s logos is very poor. Smoot give examples but does not really back them up or gives their source. like "There are approximately 31 million Spanish speaking poeple in the U.S. There are millions more who speak other languages." where does he get this. He is very much lacking in any logos. He’s ethos shows that he approves of all languages but thinks there should be one official for every one. He does not discriminate any one race or language. This is all I could get out of his ethos, not very good from my point. He’s pathos is I think is the strongest of the three. He feels strongly about this topic. I think this is how he tries to get his point a cross.

Jim Smoot replied to the question “Should English be the official language in the USA?” in a blog that he wrote. His position is that taking a stand on having English as the official language is not discriminating against the other language.
Smoot has an example that the United States is a diverse culture of people. One major group of people are the Spanish, there are “approximately 31 million Spanish speaking people live in the U.S”. He says that it is fine to have your own language and to be proud of it. It can make you feel some what at home when you speak your native language. This is not a bad thing. This idea of his is not bad but in his blog – he could have put a little more emphasis into talking about how this idea goes with his topic. He also needs to show what he is talking about and not tell us. He uses some logos the 31 million Spanish speaking people. Where did he get this information, it is not cited.
He then goes and gives a reason to have English as the official language. That “English is the language of Business and upward mobility” which is true. The United States is run in English by business, in the government and it is also taught in schools. Immigrants come here because of the success and opportunity of life. One could not succeed with out some basic knowledge of English. Smoot does not use much or any logos in this example for his point. His ethos is dry.
Then Smoot talks about not helping immigrants to learn English. So they can succeed in this country. The government does not make them learn English. They make multi languages documents which are nice but will not help immigrants to succeed in this country. The schools are forced to “adopt multilingual classrooms”. He determines that the money would be “better spent in supplying more opportunities to learn the Language”. This is fine but he needs to explain a little better and relate to his topic. His logos in this paper are not very good and convincing to the reader. It is not very informative for this issue. His ethos is in this blog is ok but not convincing. The reader can not tell anything the writer’s characteristics. So the reader can not trust what Smoot is trying to convince the read about the this topic

How do you really know some one? I mean not to know of them but to know them and what they are like; exceptionally can you really know yourself. My definitions of the word know is to have facts data or information of an event, place, object, or a person.
Every person you meet will some time in their life they will say I know him or her but just know of them. So when some one asks you if you know some one you automatically say “yes I know them” with out a second thought. There are several ways to know some one. First one to know of some one, to know of some one is to hear about that person. I have done this also, at school one of my friends would ask me if I know some one. Then I would say I do or do not know that person. When I said I do, that gets me thinking I really do know them. I might have heard of this person but I really do not know them because I have really no prior knowledge of them. Knowing of some one is like knowing a different country that you have heard of but not have been to there. So this means that you really do not know at all from personal experience or knowledge of the person.
You can know some one very well-they could have been from your childhood and been a friend forever; that is a way to really know some one but your friend could have a secret that he or she may have never told you or any one. You might know them extremely well and those of you but there are always little things that you might not know but another person might know but you know some things that they do not. One of my friends has a nickname that she has always gone by. Now I do not know the reason why she goes by her nickname but it is who she is. But my some of my other friends know why she goes by her nickname. So I do not know her in that aspect and now I can not say I know her because I do not know everything about her.
There are people that say I know myself. Well I hate to break it to them but I do not think that any person will ever truly know themselves. People do not stop to look at themselves often. They will argue with me and say I do not know what I am talking about. I would say to them ok, maybe you are right but how do you know what you would do in a situation like in the movie Saw, I do not even know what I would do. Your personality could change all of the sudden and you would be different. I do not even know all the things I can do. In track I just stated to learn how to throw the hammer. Come to fine out I am pretty good at it and that is something I did not know I could do.
So is it really possible to know a person or your self? As life has it that no one can really know any one or themselves. This is something that will make you think about your self.

i used induction and comparison. i use induction to give examples then state what i mean. and comparison was easy to use, i just compared a few things that i thought were good. i think that using the strategies helped in writing on my topic. it has helped a lot to explain and give my topic umf. i was able to keep it organized and have it flow as one. i think that my logos, ethos and pathos need to be revised.

Research Questions,
Iraq: Why pull out the troops when they still have a job to finish?
I do not understand why people are really complaining over this war, ye it is back but in retospic this war is not as bad, world war 1-2, veitnom and korean were worse. This war has about 4000 deaths and yes that is bad but the soilders knew what they were gitting into. I would rather have 4000 deaths of soilders then of civilians in the US.
Immigration: How can we stop illeagle immigration into our country?
A lot of illeagle immigrates come into our country and these people take our jobs at lowwer rates and from students. They also take our money for hospitals and well care.
Stem Cell research: What is so bad about stem cell research?
well i do not know a lot about it, but what i do know is that stem cells have properties that can help with desiessies and other medical things. i do not know why people have problems with thsi reseach because the embryos are not sentenet organizims.
Energy oil/fossile fual: when is this counrty going to swich to a different energy sorce?
oil has helped this country through our industral age, but now it is time to move on. oil is very dangerus to the envierment and not as cheap as other energy souces.
